Interventional Cardiologist Malpractice Causing Air Embolism and Death

Intravascular air embolism (VAE) is a rare, but almost always preventable, complication of minimally invasive medical procedures to access and treat blood vessels. Minimally invasive procedures include procedures such as angioplasty and stent placement. Approximately 1 in 800 venous catheters result in an air embolism either during placement or removal of the catheter. This life-threatening complication is almost always the result of medical negligence and is preventable.
